Venue: Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, Warrington
Waterside and Open Eye Gallery are delighted to present the First Light photography project celebrating work by selected photography graduates from the north of England.
In 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic forced the population into lockdown, final year photography students had to forgo the experience of the degree show – the crowning event after three years of study. While this project was borne out of specific need to address the lack of opportunity for artists emerging out of education during this uncertain time, it also addresses a wider aim to celebrate the fantastic work coming out of photographic arts courses in the region.
This exhibition, kindly hosted by Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, features 13 emerging photographers, each selected by industry professionals to represent the educational institution from which they graduated last year. Together they reflect the rich diversity of photographic practice and its importance and continuing evolution as an artistic medium in the 21st century.
